SoLFOOD – Sustainable Maize-Based Food Systems in Kenya
Objectives
Integrating scientific innovation with local farming practices, the SoLFOOD project aims to improve food safety and economic opportunities for smallholder farmers in Kenya by reducing mycotoxin contamination in maize. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), focuses on ecological, technological, and capacity development strategies to optimize maize production and ensure climate-resilient food systems.
Approach
A consortium of German research institutions (Max Rubner-Institut, Julius Kühn-Institut, Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau) collaborates with Kenyan partners (Eastern Africa Farmers Federation, Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization) to implement sustainable solutions.
